Ukraine's Mironovsky builds Europe's largest broiler farm

Despite a sombre mood in the poultry industry overshadowed by the onset of bird flu, Ukraine's Mironovsky Khleboproduct announced that construction of its broiler farm, said to be the largest in Europe, is on schedule.

The company plans to have 19.5 million chickens in the farm and output is estimated at 210,000 tonnes a year, according to a company statement.

The US$500 million project began in 2004 and first production is planned in the summer of 2007, with full capacity expected by the end of 2009.

Mironovsky Khleboproduct currently produces 130,000 tonnes of broiler chicken a year.
