DG Foods to invest US$1.19 million at production plant in Mississippi, US

Poultry processor DG Foods recently confirmed it would make a $1.19 million investment at its production plant in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, the United States, where it expects to create 32 jobs.
Part of DG Foods' investment will be the installation of new automated chicken nugget portioning equipment, which will increase capacity to meet customer demand. The operations include deboning, tender portioning and other custom processing services.
The Mississippi Development Authority is providing incentives for the project with a Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program. Copiah County, where DG Foods operates, will also provide incentives for the project.
"DG Foods is grateful for the support from the Mississippi Development Authority. This partnership has played an important role in our growth, and we appreciate the opportunity to work together on this project," said Chris Carter, chief executive officer for DG Foods. "We are excited to invest further in our Hazlehurst operations, strengthen our capabilities with new technology and create additional jobs for the community we call home."
The company opened its original 55,000-square foot facility in 2004, where it employs around 375 people. DG Foods is looking to fill 32 new positions for two shifts of 16 workers each with this investment. The second shift is scheduled to start in mid-May.
"Economic development isn't just about recruiting new companies," said Bill Cork, executive director for the Mississippi Development Authority. "It's about reinvesting in the industries and employers already doing the work, like Hazlehurst's DG Foods. This expansion creates jobs, ramps up production and drives local tax revenue, which keeps communities thriving."
