Japan reopens market for Thai frozen chicken
Japan has reopened the market for Thai frozen chicken, expecting to place orders for 200,000 tonnes per year, following the finding of chemical residue on US chicken.
Prasert Anuchiracheeva, secretary-general of the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association, said that officials from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries would visit Thailand soon to inspect the manufacturing lines of chicken exporters.
Japan has banned chicken imports from Thailand since the spread of the bird flu. Thailand however can export processed chicken, and last year's exports to Japan reached THB25.85 billion (US$800 million) or 173,515 tonnes.
