Sweden to join in African swine fever research
The Swedish National Veterinary Institute (SVA) is to join a European research network that is studying on the spread of African swine fever.
The EU has given SVA a subsidy of EUR 900,000 (US$1.4 million) for the project, which aims at drawing up precautionary methods to prevent the African swine fever from spreading to the EU after it had spread to the Caucasus region, namely Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.
Russia also announced its detection of the disease in December 2007.
