Vietnamese shrimp producers reconsidered for anti-dumping taxes

Hundreds of Vietnamese shrimp suppliers have been listed for tax reconsideration by the US Department of Commerce (DOC), Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said.

The shrimp association of Louisiana and privately owned companies asked DOC to reconsider the tax rates imposed on shrimp suppliers from Vietnam, China, India, Thailand, Ecuador and Brazil.

DOC will first reconsider the tax rates imposed on Chinese and Vietnamese shrimp export companies, and then 366 Indian, 165 Thai, 81 Ecuadorian and 43 Brazilian suppliers.

However, the said number of companies subject to the administrative review is not yet final as DOC has the right to limit the number of companies for review.

DOC will check the imports from countries in the period of between February 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008.

Previously, DOC released a preliminary conclusion on the anti-dumping tax on Vietnam's warm-water frozen shrimp during the period between February 1, 2006 and January 31, 2007.

The tax rate on 28 Vietnamese companies was slashed to 0 percent in the second administrative review.
