Russia limits meat imports over salmonella scare
Russia has imposed restrictions on meat imports in seven countries over salmonellosis concerns, the country's agricultural watchdog said Monday (April 9).
The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight said in a news release that salmonella has been detected in large batches of meat delivered from the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil and Uruguay since the onset of 2007.
The agency has requested exporting countries to investigate the meat being delivered to Russia and to take precautionary measures to prevent further prohibition.
