US food safety body to get antibiotics in DDGs banned
The Centre for Food Safety (US) is attempting to get antibiotics, contained in dried distillers grains (DDG), banned for application in livestock feed.
DDG's are an important source as part of a pig's feed, according to South Dakota producer, Brad Greenway.
National Pork Producer Council's Chief Vet, Dr. Liz Wagstrom says the amount of antibiotics contained in DDG's is very limited. Antibiotic use is being politicised and most vets and producers are using antibiotics properly and in the right amounts, Wagstrom added.
The Centre for Food Safety wants FDA to draft a new feed regulation that deems DDGs with antibiotics to be adulterated.
