China think tank keeps '09 corn, soy output estimates
The China National Grain and Oils Information Center Thursday (Apr 9) kept its estimates for the country's output of major grains in 2009 unchanged from last month.
The think tank sees corn output in 2009 at 163 million tonnes, down 1.5 percent on year, while soy output is likely to fall by 3.2 percent to 15 million tonnes on a 3.7 percent decline in area, according to the center's updated report.
The report, the center's initial forecast for area and output for major crops in 2009, is based on a survey of farmers planting willingness in some provinces and the assumption that the weather will be basically normal, it said.
CNGOIC said it will update its forecasts in May's report, based on the actual planting area and growth situation.
