Russia reduce meat imports in Jan-Feb '09
                                


Russia reduced imports of almost all types of meat and food in January to February 2009 compared to the same period of 2008, according to the Federal Customs Service (FCS).

 

Russia imported 95,600 tonnes of meat, excluding poultry meat, valued at US$313.4 million in January to February 2009 compared to 190,900 tonnes for US$498.6 million in the first two months of 2008.

 

Poultry imports fell to 87,800 tonnes valued at US$93.6 million in January to February from 162,300 tonnes for US$138.3 million in 2008.

 

Imports of fish also declined to 135,300 tonnes for US$191 million in the two months from 159,900 tonnes for US$241.3 million last year.

 

Canned meat imports declined to 4,600 tonnes for US$17.3 million from 5,400 tonnes for US$18.5 million.

 

Foodstuffs and raw material for their production accounted for 16.6 percent of overall imports from outside the CIS in January to February 2009 compared to 13.7 percent in the same period of 2008.
