Iran to export 2 million tonnes of wheat
Iran's Ministry of Commerce has announced it would export 2 million tonnes of wheat in the current Iranian year starting March 21, 2007.
In line with the current policies on the increase of wheat exports, the ministry has planned to encourage the exporters, the Deputy Commerce Minister Mohammad-Sadeq Mofatteh said.
To show its support, the ministry is planning to offer its cooperation by allocating export subsidies, he added.
A bumper harvest is expected this year, he predicted.
The official also commented that the issue is among the new plans of the ministry to boost exports of the strategic commodity.
He also hoped that the private sector would play a larger role in the wheat purchase and export in the current year.
