Mexican tuna output increases
Mexican tuna production increased 3.26% in 2010, exceeding 132,761 tonnes.
Internationally, Mexico is among the top 10 tuna consuming nations, with a per capita consumption of 1.35kg, according to the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA).
A spokesperson said that Mexico had one of the world's most responsible and sustainable tuna fisheries.
In 2009, production reached 128,566 tonnes.
For the Mexican fishing fleet, utilisation of the tuna stocks is particularly important, due to the domestic demand and the generation of jobs and trade.
