Brazil unveils new seafood plant

A modern seafood plant in Sorriso, Brazil has recently been inaugurated by the head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministry (MPA), Altemir Gregolim.

Nativ-Industria Brasilena de Pescados Amazonicos, a Brazilian fish production company, invested BRL54 million (US$30 million) in this new facility, which will employ 257 people in the sectors of production, industrialisation and sales of fish in Brazil and overseas.

The new plant will help structure the productive chain of fish, improve production and create jobs and income for the country, according to the minister, while adding that Nativ has taken a bold step in devising and developing the project, which is among the most modern undertakings of Brazil's fish industry.

Nativ produces and industrialises several native species from the Amazon, like sorubim, black pacu and tilapia, among others.
