China earmarks subsidies to stabilise hog production

China will allocate more subsidies nationwide in order to build more standardised pig farms and stabilise live hog production, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

This year, the central government will spend RMB2.5 billion (US$368 million) to set up 500 standardised demonstration farms and earmark RMB650 million (US$95.5 million) subsidy for quality pig breeding programmes in more than 400 counties across China.

Meanwhile, the government will continue the cash reward policy towards major pig producing counties for a total of RMB2.1 billion (US$309 million).
