Cold weather ruins 3.1% of Ukraine's winter grain

 
 

Cold weather destroyed 266,000 hectares of Ukraine's winter grain, which is 3.1% of the total planted area of 8.56 million hectares, Ukraine's Agriculture Ministry said Tuesday (Apr 6).

 

The ministry said 1.207 million hectares of winter grain, or 14.6% of the total planted area, was in a weak condition, while 413,000 hectares, or 4.8% of the total planted area, needed replanting.

 

Some 3.3 million hectares, or 39.9% of the total planted area, was in good condition, and 3.77 million hectares, or 45.5% of the total planted area, was in a satisfactory state.

 

Winter wheat, Ukraine's major winter grain, was destroyed on 200,000 hectares, or 3.1% of the total planted area, with 310,000 hectares needing replanting, the ministry said.

 

Some 2.59 million hectares of winter wheat, or 40.1% of the total planted area, was in a good condition, while 2.96 million hectares, or 45.8% of the total planted area, was in a satisfactory condition, the ministry said.
