Poland's grain output to reach 27 million tonnes this year
Poland's total grain production will reach 27 million tonnes this year, down from 27.7 million tonnes in 2008, the Polish Grain Chamber said Monday (Apr 6).
Area sown is estimated at 8.5 million hectares, down from 8.6 million hectares last year, according to data from the main statistics office.
Sowings survived winter well, indicating a decent output this year, although not as good as in 2008, said Maciej Tomaszewics, the Chamber's head.
Polish wheat production is seen at 8.8 million tonnes, triticale at 4.4 million tonnes, barley at 3.8 million tonnes, rye at 3.4 million tonnes, rapeseed at 2 million tonnes and oats at 1.5 million tonnes, the Chamber said.
The average yield is seen at 3.2 tonnes per hectare.
