Denmark's beef consumption up 5 percent

Denmark's consumption of beef and veal went up by about 5 percent last year to 159,000 tonnes, translating into a per capita consumption of 29.2 kilogrammes, the highest in the EU.

About half of the yearly consumption is imported as domestic supply has not been adequate to meet demand.

Imports of beef and veal increased by 8.5 percent to 112,600 tonnes last year, while Danish exports of the products declined by 2 percent to 85,200 tonnes.
