Delays in Russian livestock project a blessing in disguise

Experts in Russia are viewing the delay in the national livestock project as a blessing in disguise as the project's goal would not have been reached anyway due to feed shortages, according to a USDA attache report.

It is estimated that feed availability would have to increase 40-percent to reach the goal of producing 582,000 tonnes of pork in 2008.

With feed prices rising nearly 50 percent in the past year, the project would have been costly, experts said.
