South Korea lifts FMD livestock restrictions
South Korea's foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak appears to be under control, according to the Korean media.
The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MIFAFF) announced that it had lifted the last remaining ban on livestock movement in the country on Sunday (Apr 3), in the South Chungcheong Province. MIFAFF said that FMD appears to have been contained, with the last case being reported on February 25.
No livestock has been culled since mid-March, following nationwide vaccinations that began last December. Nearly 3.5 million pigs and cattle were culled at a cost of more than US$2.7 billion after the first case was confirmed in late November.
