Philippines aims 47.16 million litres of local milk output
The Philippines' National Dairy Authority (NDA) expects nearly 111,400 rural families to benefit from government's plan to scale up domestic dairy production, to attain an output of 47.16 million litres of milk in 2016.
About 71% or 33.48 million litres of such milk will be sourced from cattle. Other dairy milk sources for the next five years are carabaos and goats.
Government's plan for scaled up production seeks to achieve by 2016 about 43% local milk supply sufficiency. Scaled up production also targets increasing to 46% local milk share in the country.
At present, imports dominate the country's dairy supply. Such dairy imports totalled some 319.17 million kilogrammes last year. This is over 10 times the 15.70 million kg of dairy produced nationwide that year.
The Philippines' major dairy suppliers then were New Zealand, US, Australia and France.
