Porcine disease strikes Northern Vietnam's swine farms
Blue-ear disease has resurfaced in northern Hai Duong province, infecting more than 300 hogs and killed nearly 100, according to reports on Monday (Apr 5).
Dong Van Chuc, head of the Hai Duong provincial Veterinary Service, said that the disease has spread to three communes of Tien Duong, Quang Trung and Tay Ky in Ty Ky district and four communes of Hong Khe, Nhan Quyen, Tan Viet and Thai Hoc in Binh Giang district.
The Hai Duong provincial veterinary department has undertaken urgent measures to quarantine the infected areas and sterilise breeding farms. Transport and trading of sick pigs have also been banned.
Binh Giang and Tu Ky districts have set up temporary checkpoints in communes hit by the disease to detect new outbreaks and prevent its spread as soon as possible.
