Philippines bans poultry from Denmark
The Philippines has implemented a temporary ban on wild birds and poultry products from Naevstved municipality in Denmark after confirming the occurrence of bird flu in the area.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) issued Memorandum Order 11 authorising the implementation of the temporary ban.
Agriculture Secretary Bernie Fondevilla said that low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI subtype H7) has been detected in a mallard breeding farm in Fujlejerg, Naevstved in Denmark.
While Naevstved municipality in Denmark is not a major source of poultry products for the Philippines, Fondevilla said the temporary ban is being issued as a precautionary measure.
With the issuance of the temporary ban, the processing, evaluation of the application, and issuance of veterinary quarantine clearance to import wild birds and poultry products from Naevstved have been suspended.
The order also calls for the stoppage and confiscation of all shipments of poultry and poultry products into the country originating from Naevstved by all DA veterinary quarantine officers and inspectors at all major ports.
