Azerbaijan's grain imports nearly tripled
The grain imports to Azerbaijan increased nearly threefold in 2011 as compared with 2010.
Azerbaijan imported grain worth US$87.15 million in 2011 that being 273.04% up on US$31.9 million in 2010, said the state customs committee.
The grain imports accounted for 6.57% of the total imports to Azerbaijan in M210.
The local outputs reached a little more than two million tonnes in 2010 being 33% down from 2.99 million tonnes in 2009. Azerbaijan needs three million tonnes of grain.
The import of wheat and rye as well as or wheat and wheat-rye flour to Azerbaijan is VAT-exempt as of December 2010; this benefit will be in effect until August 1, 2011.
