Romanian 2010 grain crops grow 11.4%
Romania's 2010 grain crop climbed by 11.4%, from 14.873 million tonnes, in 2009 to 16.57 million tonnes in 2010.
Our country preponderantly 40.7% wheat, of the total surface grown in grains, National Statistics Institute (INS) data said on Thursday (Mar 31).
It was the yield per ha (average production) that brought the increase in the grain crops. Thus the yield for wheat is higher by 15.8%, while that for barley and two-row barley went 11.1% up. The yield for % grew up to 19%, the total crop increasing by 14.2%, attaining 9.1 million tonnes, in 2010.
The wheat production amounted to 5.588 million tonnes in 2010 compared to 5.203 million tonnes, in 2009, that of barley and two-row barely by 1.321 million tonnes versus 1.182 million tonnes in 2009, whereas the oat crop exceeded 328,000 tonnes, in 2010 than 296,000 tonnes, in the year before, INS data showed.
