Wheat growing to increase in Kenya
With better prices being paid to farmers last year, wheat acreage in Kenya is expected to increase from 150,000 to 172,000 hectares this year, said the Cereals Growers Association.
But without import tax protection, some farmers might switch to corn planting, instead, said the association. The government scrapped a 35 percent duty on wheat imports early this year when it joined the East Africa Community Customs Union treaty.
