Vietnam Plan Poultry Industry Development
Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has mapped out the development of the poultry industry up to 2010, by which, Vietnam will have a poultry stock of 345 million, providing 563,000 tons of meat and 6.5 - 7billion eggs per year.
According to MARD's strategy to restore the poultry industry back to its pre-bird flu levels, restoration and development of the industry will be divided into two stages.
The first, from now to 2005, will focus on mainly on restoring breeders' stocks, reaching 165-180million chickens, 60-65million of ducks and geese.
The second stage, from 2006-2010 will see considerable progress in quantity and quality of the poultry-breeding sector. The sector is expected to gain the growth rate of 7% every year, which will lead to 30% growth rate in 2010.
The MARD is also drawing up a poultry-breeding map. Accordingly, southeastern areas, the Central Highlands and northern mountainous areas will be reserved for chicken breeding. The breeding of ducks will be carried out in the Red River and Mekong River Delta, and coastal areas.
