Ukrainian soy exports grow 12% in six months
From September 1 through February, the soy exports of Ukraine advanced 12% to 691,000 tonnes, according to UkrAgroConsult.
This compares with 617,000 tonnes exported in the same period a year earlier, the Kiev-based agricultural researcher said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. The soy went to the EU, Egypt, Turkey and Syria, according to the statement.
Another 350,000 tonnes to 400,000 tonnes of soy will be exported from Ukraine from March through May and will be followed by a seasonal slowdown in June to August, the researcher said. Soy exports for the year to August 31 will be up 31%, at 990,000 tonnes, it said.
The country's soy harvest was 2.28 million tonnes last year, or 36% more than a year earlier, according to UkrAgroConsult.
