Pakistani poultry prices to decrease

Prices of poultry and its products in the markets of various areas in Punjab are expected to decrease.

According to market insiders, with the end of wedding seasons and rising mercury trend, demand of poultry products has started to weaken. During the last 10 days, average price of egg reduced by almost PKR5 (US$0.059) per dozen in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan districts.

As per official daily market prices of poultry and its products prepared by provincial Livestock Department, prices of live broiler were almost constant in various districts of the province. During the last 10 days, average price of live broiler in Faisalabad and Multan districts remained at PKR117.50/kg (US$1.38) and PKR131/kg (US$1.53) respectively.

However, during the last 10 days, average price of live broiler showed increase of PKR3/kg (US$0.035) in Lahore and PKR5/kg (US$0.059) in Rawalpindi. Despite this relative increase, market insiders believed that price of live broiler would reduce in near future due to less production of poultry. Market sources said major indication to this effect was a steep decline in the price of day-old broiler chick in various districts of the province. It has been witnessed that the price of day-old broiler chick has dropped by PKR10-12 (US$0.12-0.14) in these markets during the last day and is now hovering around PKR23-30 (US$0.27-0.35) per-day old broiler chick.
