Ukraine's grain export quotas unlikely in 2008
Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Slauta said on Friday (March 30) that grain export quotas for the marketing year ending June 2008 were unlikely.
He said the government will prepare the rules for the grain market in the next marketing year in advance. In 2008, the market will be active in the purchase activity on the part of state grain traders, which is aimed at keeping grain prices in check and provide financial support for farmers.
Slauta said that all market participants will be consulted on the issue of waiver on wheat quotas and the decision may be reached this year.
In 2006, Ukraine harvested 34.3 million metric tonnes of grain, a volume 9.9 percent decrease compared to 2005.
