Hawaii quarantines shrimp farm in Kahuku
Hawaiian authorities have quarantined a Kahuku shrimp farm owned by Ming Dynasty Fish and Shrimp Co. following positive test results of a potentially serious shrimp disease in a pond there.
Officials also prohibited transport of shrimp to or from the affected area.
While authorities did not consider the Taura syndrome virus to be a threat to humans, the disease can potentially devastate shrimp stocks.
Nicolas Lynn, co-owner of Ming Dynasty Fish and Shrimp Co., said the business only sold shrimp to wholesalers on Oahu, with no shipments to other islands or anywhere else.
