Chinese vitamin C producers lift prices as sales improve

Demand for vitamin C remained slow during early March but picked up gradually towards middle of the month with aqua feed production expanding. Producers who were eager to clear inventories held prices unchanged to entice buyers. Towards late March, vitamin C producers lifted prices cautiously after clearing excess stocks.

Prices of feed- and food-grade vitamin C increased slightly to the range of RMB23/kg.

Vitamin C demand will be supported by the growing output of aqua feed. However, hog herd expansion is expected to be slow as farmers are worried that an epidemic has caused the dumping of hog carcasses in the rivers of Shanghai and other regions. The upsurge of vitamin C prices is therefore unlikely to be strong.
