US urges Korea to fully open beef market
The US will continue to urge Korea to fully open its market to American beef.
The 2013 National Trade Estimate Report on Foreign Trade Barriers was released Monday (Apr 1), and it says the US exported nearly US$600 million worth of beef to Korea last year making Seoul the fourth-largest export market for American beef.
The report also says the decision to allow Koreans to limit their beef imports to products from animals less than 30 months old was a 'transitional measure.'
It will continue until Korean consumer confidence improves.
Back in 2008, Koreans held massive candlelight vigils protesting against the resumption of US beef imports over fears of mad cow disease.
