Golden State Foods buys food distribution centre

A food distribution centre near St. Louis operated by Gateway Distribution Inc. that serves McDonald's restaurants in five states will be acquired by Golden State Foods.

The amount involved was not disclosed by Golden State Foods.

Irvine, Calif.-based Golden State says the plant has about 160 employees and provides products to more than 350 McDonald's outlets in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana and Kentucky. Gateway Distribution founder, President and CEO Bill Dowling is retiring but the company's team is expected to remain in place once the deal closes.

Golden State says the purchase will strengthen its existing relationship with McDonald's and bring its global ranks to nearly 4,500 associates. The company services more than 25,000 stores in 50 countries from 38 distribution centres, posting annual sales of nearly US$6 billion. It's the second expansion in as many months for Golden State.

The provider of foodservice products and processor of meat, liquids, dairy and other products to the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry recently acquired a sauce and condiment maker in New Zealand.
