Mexican livestock exports rising on high prices
Mexican livestock producers have been taking advantage of high prices to increase their cattle exports, despite animal losses to a recent drought, according to Mexico's Agriculture Minister, Francisco Mayorga.
Mayorga said at a press conference that the price for a live calf is MXN40 (US$3.16) per kilogramme, more than double what it was two years ago.
During the 2011-2012 season, which ends this month, Mexico has exported 846,000 head of livestock so far, up 9% on the year.
