US soy checkoff program outline future priorities

Using priority issues established by the entire soy industry and feedback from US soy farmers, the United Soybean Board (USB) have evaluated the soy checkoff's current programs and selected the most critical areas on which to focus in the near future.

Supporting production research on increasing yields will remain the top target area for the farmer-leaders of USB along with improving the composition of the soy for the end users of US soy.

USB chairman and soy farmer Chuck Myers said that production research fits right in with the top priority and that is increasing yield and increasing or at least maintaining the quality of soy.

The checkoff plans to focus on improving soy composition, in particular, according to the needs and demands of the food industry.

Continuing to establish markets for US soybeans abroad, especially where biotech soy are concerned, remains another important order for the checkoff.

Soy checkoff farmer leaders will also work to ensure the future of soy production in the US by encouraging sound farming practices.

Supporting the domestic livestock and poultry industries will also remain important to USB in coming years which includes increasing awareness of the economic impact of these industries on the US economy and US soy farmers.
