Ukraine poultry breeders expect arrival of EU inspectors in June
The Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine association is expecting EU inspectors to arrive in June, and hopes Ukrainian companies will be able to start exports of eggs and egg products by end of 2009 if they pass the inspections.
Several EU member states wish to purchase poultry and eggs from Ukraine, but Ukrainian companies need to pass the inspection, according to Oleksandr Bakumenko, chairman of the association.
Bakumenko said the inspection is likely to concern five companies specialising in poultry production, two companies specialising in liquid egg products, two companies involved in table eggs production and one provender mill.
Bakumenko stated that the export of Ukrainian egg products to the EU can start by the end of 2009.
Last month, the State Veterinary Medicine Committee's chairman Petro Verbytsky said the country would be able to export poultry meat to the EU by 2010.
Ukraine currently supplies live horses, fish, powdered eggs and honey to the EU.
