China's winter wheat crops show good condition

According to a survey by the Ministry of Agriculture on 99.5% of the major wheat producing areas in China, the winter wheat plantings of the country are growing satisfactory on the whole.

The survey shows that 74.2% of the monitored winter wheat has the same growth as the previous year, 15.3% is better than a year ago, while the remaining 10.5% is growing more slowly.

Drought was continuing to linger in southwestern areas and was unfavourable for wheat growth, the ministry said.

Most of China's winter wheat has turned green and is in the jointing period. Winter wheat represents a large part of China's summer grain, which makes up over 20% of the full year's production.
