Wheat in Bulgaria more expensive than in USA
Some movement was stirred on the grain market last week as bread wheat in Bulgaria was offered at 277 to 292 Bulgarian leva per tonne. However, buyers were not ready to pay more than 250 leva per tonne as it is more expensive than Russia, Ukraine and US wheat.
Sunflower seeds also attracted interest on the Sofia Commodity Exchange as it prices remained steady at 400 to 420 leva per tonne. The trend on the global exchanges is to a slight increase, because part of the land for sunflower has been sown with oilseed rape for alternative fuels. The same trend is observed in Bulgaria, where rape-sown areas have doubled over the past year.
