Danish Egg-Processing Giant Enters China's Processed-Egg Market

An eFeedLink Exclusive Report

China's egg production exceeds 20 million tons and is worth more than RMB 120 billion. It is the largest egg-producing country in the world, accounting for more than 40% of the world's total output of eggs.  China's per capita consumption of eggs has risen above world average and is closing ranks with those of developed countries like USA and France.  These statistics are indicative of the tremendous opportunities and market potential for the production of processed egg products in China.

The bird flu outbreak in February has resulted in the culling of tens of million of fowl, affecting directly or indirectly, and to different extent, the operations of enterprises in industries like food and beverage, bakery, processed meat production, condiment production, etc.  To reduce the systemic risks posed by the outbreak of bird flu to their enterprises, many far-sighted companies are seeking and adopting preventive measures.

In developed countries like South Korea, Japan, USA and those in the European Union, raw eggs are banned from food production lines, not to mention the manual cracking and beating of eggs.  These measures are to prevent the spread of virus and bacteria to human beings through contaminated eggshells.

There are relatively few egg-processing enterprises operating in China. Ou Fu Egg Production Company Limited is one. Located in Suchou area of Jiangsu province, it is a wholly-owned Danish company engaged specifically in the production of processed egg products. The company is scheduled to commence operation in China by end 2004.

The Company will be installing the world-renown SANOVO fully automated egg-processing system to handle the washing of egg shells, egg cracking & breaking, pasteurization, steam-drying, cooking & peeling, canning of eggs, etc., including an advanced system for overall quality inspection.  The products of the Company will include pasteurized liquid eggs, dried eggs and cooked eggs.

The Company's production plant is set up according to the stringent GMP egg-processing standards required by the European Union, with the capacity to process up to million eggs per day.  The Company's liquid egg products will include pasteurized liquid egg white, liquid egg yoke and whole eggs, which will be chilled and transported in cold-chain all the way into the hands of customers.

When Suchou Ou Fu Egg Production Company Limited commences production in China by the end of this year, it can claim to be the first in two areas, namely the first in China to produce chilled fresh liquid eggs and the first in China to produce cooked egg products under a fully automated system.  By then, China will witness a new chapter in its egg-processing industry.  Its processed-egg production industry will enter a new phase of development, providing a new range of alternatives for domestic food processing industry, food & beverage industry as well as the leisure & retail sectors.

Apart from providing consumers with greater assurance of food safety and health, the Company's new range of processed-egg products will also ensure more hygienic, convenient and economical source of good quality processed egg ingredients for enterprises in the food processing industry.
