Vietnam's Bac Lieu province expands whiteleg shrimp farming

Shrimp farming area in Vietnam's Bac Lieu province experienced a sharp increase compared to January to March last year, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reports.

So far this year, farmers in Bac Lieu province have stocked nearly 1,500 hectares of whiteleg shrimp under intensive and semi-intensive farming models.

The increased production was attributed to higher shrimp price and demand as well as a short harvesting cycle, according to VASEP.

The price of whiteleg shrimp with a count of 80 to 100 pieces per kilogram is in the range of VND130,000 to VND145,000 per kilogram.

Increasing whiteleg shrimp production is expected to compensate for the rising shortage of raw black tiger shrimp for processors in the province.
