US relaxes European poultry restrictions
The USDA declared most of the EU free of two highly-contagious avian illnesses, allowing regulators to ease import restrictions on poultry and fertilised eggs.
The department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued a final rule in a preview of Friday's (Mar 22) Federal Register that designated 25 of the EU's 27 member states completely free of Newcastle disease and highly pathogenic avian influenza, two deadly and fast-spreading bird diseases that can devastate poultry producers.
