Japan lifts ban on poultry imports from Taiwan
Japan has lifted a ban on Tuesday (Mar 31) on imports of poultry and poultry products from Taiwan, according to the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine.
Taiwanese poultry products can now be exported to Japan as long as they meet Tokyo's quarantine rules, the Bureau said.
Japan suspended imports of poultry and poultry products from Taiwan in December 2008 after a chicken farm in Kaohsiung County in southern Taiwan reported an outbreak of low pathogenic bird flu.
Taiwanese authorities took immediate action to control the outbreak and after three months of efforts, the Bureau confirmed the virus was no longer present, leading to the removal of the ban.
