China initiates national quality soy production base in Suihua
China recently began the construction of its national-level high quality soy production base in Suihua city in the Heilongjiang Province.
Suihua allocated a total of RMB75 million (US$11 million) for the project, the National Development and Reform Commission reported.
Investment from China's central government amounted to RMB50 million (US$7 million) while that of the province was RMB12.5 million (US$1.8 million).
The high-quality soy production base will occupy 34,800 hectares, with the soy cultivation area at 800 ha and the production base covering 34,000 ha.
Construction is scheduled from 2008 to 2009.
