Vietnam's Lam Dong province launches salmon breeding project

A pilot salmon project conducted in Da Lat City and Lac Duong district in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has achieved encouraging results, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The department said rates of both hatched eggs and live salmon were high. Salmon eggs were imported from Poland.

The department added that salmon farmers can earn VND3 billion (US$187,500) per hectare yearly. However, the agency admitted that advanced technology to treat water and prevent the spread of diseases is needed to efficiently breed quality salmon. Technical support is also strongly recommended for a more proficient salmon breeding management, said the department.
