Brazil's Perdigao to double chicken production at Goias plant

Brazilian food company Perdigao said Thursday (March 31, 2008) that it will be doubling chicken production at one of its units in Goias.

Perdigao said that it would increase chicken processing to 140,000 birds daily from the current 70,000 at its unit in Jatai, Goias, in Brazil's southeast.

The production increase will cost around 165 million Brazilian reals (US$95.3 million) out of total three-year investment plan of BRL1.1 billion earmarked for company upgrades.

The Jatai facility was acquired in August 2007 for BRL28.5 million.

Perdigao is one of Brazil's largest domestic food companies and chicken meat exporters.
