Japan lifts ban of beef imports from Swift & Co plant
Japan has lifted its ban on beef imports from Swift & Co's Nebraska plant, according to the agriculture ministry on Friday (Mar 27).
Japan banned imports from the Nebraska plant in October last year after discovering sweetbreads in a shipment.
Sweetbreads are banned under Japan-US beef trade rules, and a US report explained that the products were incorrectly weighed and labelled as beef tongues for shipment to Japan.
The report said in future, tongues will be packed in a separate room and workers will verify that all contents in boxes match the product labels.
