Russia stop US pork imports following smuggled salmonella-tainted meat
The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision has stopped salmonella-tainted pork smuggled into the Belgorod region, in Russia from the US from entering the Russian market.
According to local media, an inspection conducted at a warehouse in Belgorod has yielded 16 tonnes of frozen pork, which was stored without the appropriate veterinary documents.
The labels stated that the pork was produced in the US, at a company not authorized to export its products to the Russian market.
According to the labels, the pork was brought from the US into Ukraine and lab tests have revealed the presence of salmonella in the pork.
