Germany's Novoplant to begin pea trials for animal feed
 

German biotech company Novoplant will carry out field trials of newly developed medicinal peas to be used as raw material in animal feed.

The peas are modified with a gene to produce antibodies and as an addition to the animals' own immunity for better protection against diseases, said Novoplant.

Novoplant director Dieter Falkenburg said these modified crops--which will be available in 2010--can be a better alternative as antibiotics cannot be used in feed anymore.
