Smithfield slaughtering down 8 percent
Pig slaughtering by US pork producer Smithfield Foods has plunged by 8 percent over the last three months compared to the same period last year.
The decline was blamed to the prevalence of PCVAD (Porcine Circovirus Associated Diseases) in the North American continent.
Smithfield--the world's biggest pork producer--says vaccination project are already being carried out. However, these vaccines have not been available in the market for some time.
