Cargill to buy SWP's grain facilities

US agri-giant Cargill Limited will purchase from Canada's Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (SWP) high throughput elevators and one export grain terminal in Vancouver.

SWP would sell Cargill the following nine 'country assets' across the prairies of elevator/crop input centres:

    • Davidson, SK (grain handling/crop input)

    • Kindersley, SK (grain handling/crop input)

    • Congress, SK (grain handling/crop input)

    • Vermilion, AB (grain handling)

    • Camrose, AB (grain handling/crop input)

    • Blackie, AB (grain handling)

    • Viking, AB (grain handling)

    • Equity, AB (grain handling)

    • Elva, MB (grain handling/crop input)

In addition, SWP would sell its 100 percent owned terminal located on the North Shore of the port of Vancouver to Cargill; and Cargill would sell its 50 percent interest in the Vancouver Cascadia Terminal to SWP (with some considerations).

Len Penner, President of Cargill Limited, said these high throughput facilities would ensure growers' continued access to local service and programmes.

Penner said the Vancouver terminal opportunities for Cargill to flex its grain market in Canada.
