Vietnam earns US$250 million in March seafood exports
Vietnam has earned US$250 million in seafood exports as of March this year, bringing total seafood export revenue in the first quarter of 2007 to US$700 million, figures from the Fisheries Ministry shown to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
The figure represents an increase of more than 35 percent from the same period last year.
In order to increase seafood export turnover, the ministry has urged the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiqaved) to intensify inspections on the quality, safety and hygiene of marine products, particularly those destined for exports to major markets.
The ministry has also called for strong measures in preventing contamination of antibiotics and other banned substances.
In addition, the Nafiqaved was required to work closely with foreign counselors and commercial attache to address related remaining problems.
